Dr Matthew Shepherd

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

DClinPsych, MNZCCP

Matt (Ngāti Tama; he/him) is a consultant clinical psychologist with invaluable skills in bicultural approaches, rangatahi (youth) mental health, and working with groups. Matt is a relatable workshop facilitator as well as offering consultation, psychological intervention, and coaching for teams and individuals.

Matt brings over two decades of hands-on experience in the wellbeing sector. Beginning as a social worker and family therapist, he then went on to train as a psychologist. Outside of his mahi (work) with our clinic, Matt is now an Associate Professor leading one of New Zealand's prestigious clinical psychology training programmes.

Matt has published national and international research on Te Ao Māori approaches to wellbeing and technology in healthcare.He is an Associate Professor and part of internationally acclaimed wellbeing research and development projects, such as the E-therapy team at the University of Auckland School of Psychological Medicine and SPARX which was published in the British Medical Journal and received two international awards for digital innovation.

Matt provides a calm and relaxed environment for people to address the challenges they are facing. His approach is down to each, yet informed by evidence-based practice.

 

Outside of work, Matt is also known to be handy with a  guitar! Matt is based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
